Woking Borough Council is embarking on a digital transformation program to realise the benefits of our Microsoft 365 implementation and develop new ways of working to support our citizens and local businesses. Our ambition is to become a digital leader.

We are now looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our busy Service Desk team, supporting existing systems and new initiatives. This role is offered on an 18 month fixed term contract.

This is an ideal opportunity to kick-start your career in Information Technology, working within a professional team promoting digital provision of services.

The team provides first line support for all aspects of digital services including remote and office working, end point devices including thin clients, laptops, tablets, and phones, fixed and mobile telephony, and network, hardware, and software issues.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate strong problem solving and analytical skills. Eligibility criteria to undertake the apprenticeship includes:

⦁ be 16 or over

⦁ not already be in full-time education

⦁ be living in England

The qualification received after successful completion of the course is Digital Support Technican Level 3.

Alongside on-the-job learning, training delivery is based on a remote, blended model of one-to-one sessions every 4 weeks, group sessions, webinars, online courses, video, and additional support as required. This means that you’ll have the guidance you need as well as the flexibility to learn around the requirements of the day job. This approach reduces disruption for the learners and their line managers giving everyone the best chance of benefitting from the training and completing the course.

Delivery of the standard is remote and is based around modules consisting of introduction, training, personal study, completion, and observation.

Woking Borough Council offers in return a competitive salary, additional training opportunities and a generous flexi time scheme with the ability to take two flexi days a month, membership of the local government pension scheme, discounted health and leisure membership, plus many more excellent benefits.

For an informal chat about the role, please contact the Infrastructure and Service Desk Manager paul.murphy@woking.gov.uk
