Electoral Services Officer

Salary: £24,298 - £35,294 p.a.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our hard working and dedicated Electoral Services team.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Electoral Services Officer. The successful applicant will work in a small, dedicated team responsible for the maintenance of the Electoral Register and providing support for the effective administration of elections and referendums.

You will be organised, self-motivated and a strong team player. Additionally, be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. An eye for detail, excellent ICT skills and a willingness to work flexibly at election times will be essential, which will include additional hours during peak periods. You will possess strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Whilst previous experience is desirable it is not essential and where required we will fully support you in your career development and progression within the electoral services profession.

Please note that this post is politically restricted and during peak periods you will need to work significant additional hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council’s policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with a rota and any service requirements.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for customer facing posts.  These posts fall within the scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers.  The Council, therefore, has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

Please note as part of the employment checks this post will be subject to a basic Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

We offer a competitive benefits package that includes a pension scheme and a minimum of 23 days paid leave per year. This is a career grade, and we will sponsor you to obtain your AEA Certificate in electoral administration if you do not already hold this qualification.

If you are looking for a new challenge in a happy, friendly working environment then this could be the job for you.

If you would like to have an informal discussion, please contact Liz Harvey, Electoral Services Manager on 01784 444251.

Closing date: Wednesday 29 November 2023 (Noon)

Interview date: w/c Monday 11th December 2023
