We are looking for a Planning Technical Support Officer within the Minerals and Waste Policy Team. Your office base will be Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking, GU22 7QQ. Whilst having this as an administrative base, the Planning Group have an agile workstyle, with an expectation that Officers will work out of different locations/venues, including home. Subject to operational requirements, staff are encouraged to choose the location where they think will be most productive and have access to technology to connect with team members.

Consequently, Surrey faces huge challenges to accommodate housing and economic growth in a sustainable way in the context of a changing climate, biodiversity loss, a densely populated and valuable natural environment, sustainable waste management, maintaining the supply of and safeguarding a range of minerals, and identified deficits in supporting strategic and local infrastructure. In this regard the county council is a key infrastructure provider and has a statutory responsibility to engage with Surrey's districts and boroughs and surrounding planning authorities in plan making and provide for minerals and waste management development across the county.
As a member of the Minerals and Waste Planning Policy Team, you will play an important role supporting the work of the team. This includes the preparation of the county's first joint minerals and waste local plan and related public consultation and engagement exercises, as well as monitoring the performance of the county's existing minerals and waste development framework.
We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in land-use planning matters, is self-motivated and highly organised, confident, and able to manage a varied workload effectively and independently. Working closely with professional planning officers, you will provide ICT support as required including web authoring, accessibility, and advice on the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other specialist computer systems and databases including GIS.
You should be self-confident and will value working as part of an experienced and supportive team. You should be able to work under pressure, to deadlines, communicate effectively, and demonstrate drive and commitment. We will support and develop you to help you reach your own ambitions.
To be considered for interview your CV (or application) and personal statement will clearly evidence:
- A good general education and knowledge of land-use planning in England or related disciplines,
- Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade C and above including English and Mathematics, or able to evidence to an equivalent level,
- Good written and oral communication skills,
- Good ICT skills including database management.
