The starting salary for this role is £26,080 per annum for working 36 hours per week. 

This is an 18-month secondment / fixed term contract. Part time hours will be considered. Please specify this requirement and the hours and days you are available in your covering documentation.

Are you looking to build upon your excellent organisational and analytical skills to assist the team to complete key tasks in preparation for the implementation of new legislation? Do you have experience of working in pensions? Are you looking to gain further exposure to firefighter pension schemes? If so, this role could be for you.

Working as part of the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, you will report to the Pensions Project Officer who is supported by the Senior Pensions Advisor. The team are currently in the process of working through a number of key pension projects, two of which are sector wide. To complete these projects, you will be required to assist the team to ensure the data submitted to our pension administrator is successfully collated, up-to-date and accurate. This will involve using and manipulating Excel spreadsheets, so a high attention to detail is required.

The role will also involve drafting communications for members on an ad-hoc basis, taking ownership of the Pension Team’s email inbox to delegate and/or respond to emails accordingly, and completing Business as Usual (BAU) tasks as required. BAU tasks will require working with internal colleagues and external clients where necessary to gain the required information, resolving queries or completing documentation in a timely manner.

You will also have the opportunity to lead on tasks outside of your day-to-day role where you will be guided by your line manager. Therefore, you will be required to show good initiative and have a willingness to complete different types of tasks.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence, with examples, the following skills or experience:

  • High attention to detail with excellent analytical and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work on several tasks at any one time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience of using databases including data entry and report running.
  • A methodical approach to information gathering, recording and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

This role supports agile working with the expectation to work one to two days a week at the Service’s headquarters (Woodhatch Place, Reigate, RH2 8EF).

Please note, it is policy for new employees to commence at the beginning of the relevant salary range with limited exceptions.
