An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Strategic Transport Officer within the Planning Policy team to add to our experienced and busy section. We are looking for an experienced transport officer already working in the strategic transport field and looking to further their professional career at Guildford Borough Council.

Job Profile

You will be joining a high achieving team comprising of eight Policy Planners, three Design and Conservation officers and two Strategic Transport Officers. The main purpose of the role is to lead transport strategy and policy development for the Council’s Local Plan and other spatial planning workstreams and projects.  This will involve the provision of technical transport planning advice and representing the Council at high level meetings with partners and stakeholders.

The post holder will contribute to the preparation of the borough’s Local Plan and other planning documents, in support of the aim of sustainable development.  The majority of the team successfully adopted the first part of the Local Plan (Strategy and Sites) in 2019 and are now in the process of preparing the second part (Development Management Policies). This plan was submitted to the Secretary of State in June of this year and over the course of the next nine months, you can expect to take an active role in progressing the plan through the Examination process and to adoption.  You will also be involved in a range of other planning policy related work.  This includes an ongoing review of the transport evidence base which will feed into the review of the Local Plan and further work on the regeneration of the town centre.

In addition to the more generic Job Description we have provided some additional detail on the skills, knowledge and experience that the successful candidate will need to possess as well as a list of the main duties. We are based in the attractive riverside Council Offices close to Guildford Town Centre.  The Council is well equipped with the technology necessary to enable remote working and it is expected that a mixture of home and office working will remain in the future.  The Council is currently progressing a collaboration with Waverley Borough Council with a newly appointed joint Management Team. It is envisaged that opportunities for closer joint working will continue to occur in the future. As a Council we offer employee benefits including a career average earnings pension scheme, generous annual leave and flexible working scheme.

If you require further information on the role please contact Stuart Harrison, Planning Policy Lead, at Stuart.Harrison@guildford.gov.uk.

A basic disclosure security check will be required for the successful application.
