Planning Officer or Senior Planning Officer

(Part-time applications welcome)

Ref: 745p

Salary £32,485 to £43,874 per annum for 37 hours per week

Salary dependent on experience, qualifications and evidence of continuous professional development

Are you an ambitious planning professional ready to hit the ground running at Runnymede Borough Council? This is the opportunity for you. Not only can we offer great career progression but also exposure to interesting major and strategic applications, alongside applications for residential and changes of use. It is an exciting time to join Runnymede following the current regeneration of Addlestone, the base for The Civic Centre, which is located at the edge of London and close to Heathrow Airport. Our aim is to deliver growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Runnymede and delivers infrastructure and services to support it.

The potential expansion of Heathrow, the planned delivery of a major flood alleviation scheme in the Borough and an imminent new Local Plan all present opportunities to broaden your planning skillset and contribute to the Council’s success. You’ll play a vital part in delivering developments including large scale residential projects, commercial and change of use applications where planning constraints can include the floodplain, green belt or conservation areas. There are opportunities to develop your management skills as you will be able to supervise junior staff and work positively with a range of stakeholders.

As a senior member of the team or working towards a senior position you will need to have a master’s qualification in town planning (or equivalent) with strong practical experience in Development Management but we are interested to hear from applicants with a range of planning experience. We are seeking a confident, self-motivated and diplomatic person with a ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to deliver positive outcomes for the future of the Borough. You should be able to provide clear and accurate advice to stakeholders and show excellent customer care, verbal and written skills.

In addition to a competitive salary, Runnymede Borough Council offers:

  • Generous annual leave of up to 28 days subject to length of service
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Health care scheme (after 3 years service)
  • payment of professional fees
  • Discounted gym membership
  •    Where applicable, a relocation benefits package and mortgage/rental equalisation scheme

Our modern offices, less than hour from London, are in Addlestone town centre which is on the main line to London Waterloo and has a new cinema, Waitrose and gym within walking distance. Access to free parking for part of the week is also available and wellbeing activities such as yoga, led walks and table tennis take place on site.

The Council is happy to receive applications from individuals who are interested in part-time work. If you are interested in working part time hours please state your preferred working pattern in the ‘additional information’ section of the application form.

We would welcome the opportunity to tell you more about the role. Please call Lucy Rees, on 01932 425131 to find out more. To apply, email your CV and covering letter outlining how you meet the person specification and motivations for applying to humanresources@runnymede.gov.uk
