Reporting to the Chief Accountant , this newly created role is split between being the lead accountant for one of the Council’s companies, including full bookkeeping, banking and taxation responsibilities, and being a member of the Council’s wider accountancy team providing costing, budgeting, and accounting services for a range of Council activities. As well as your general accounting responsibilities, you will act as Systems Administrator for the Council’s Financial Information System identifying and developing improved use of the functionality available to ensure that the system meets the needs of the users effectively.
The successful candidate will need to be highly numerate, able to work accurately and methodically to ensure that all aspects of the work meets statutory requirements and professional codes of conduct, particularly those in in respect of producing the year end accounts.
The scope of the role means you should be able to organise and prioritise workloads and have a flexible approach to your duties to enable you to meet the various deadlines required. Your strong technical skills will give you the self-confidence to enable you to manage the competing demands of the role whilst driving forward changes and improvements to the service. Whilst not essential, previous experience of local authority accounting and local authority companies would be an advantage, as would experience in a systems admin role.
Ideally candidates will be professionally qualified and hold full membership of a recognised CCAB body, however a part qualified accountant with a commitment to complete a CCAB qualification will be considered.
