£11,117.60 per annum for 36 hours per week, based at Surrey Arts, 14 The Pines, Broad Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU3 3BH. Although this position is primarily based at Surrey Arts main office there will be occasional visits to other venues around the county, as required.

This is a fixed-term contract for a minimum of 12 months.

From flexible working to job sharing (where possible) we are committed to providing a healthy work life balance. A laptop and mobile will be supplied if applicable to your role.

You will benefit from 24 days annual leave, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service, a generous local government salary related pension, as well as the option to join our car lease scheme.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.

Your apprenticeship within Surrey Arts will support a programme of work, study and training designed to develop your skills and abilities to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

The Surrey Arts service comprises music teaching (delivered to over 15,000 students across the county each year), Surrey Wardrobe, Visual Arts, Drama, Dance and Contemporary Music Development.

This apprenticeship is specifically working with Surrey Arts; the council's music and arts department and will support their work by participating in and contributing to the delivery of services and projects.

You should have an interest in the arts as you will be working with all departments including visual arts, costume, music and community arts. Part of your working week will be in the wardrobe hire department so an interest in this area would be beneficial too.

You will be supported by the supervising manager and will be required to carry out a range of duties to develop skills and confidence. You will be a team player with a mature outlook and a 'can do' attitude. Whilst working closely with a buddy/mentor, we encourage innovative thinking and an enthusiasm for learning.

You should be willing to undertake a programme of work, study and training designed to develop your skills and abilities to achieve a level 2 or 3 qualification. An arts related qualification could also be beneficial.

In this role you will:

  • Undertake a course of studies and develop a broad range of skills within the requirements of the whole arts service to achieve a nationally recognised Apprenticeship or another qualification.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Surrey County Council's employee rights and responsibilities, in line with the requirements of the Apprenticeship framework or agreed qualification.
  • Provide high standards of performance to ensure that the service continues to operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Under supervision, work closely with the other team members to assist in a range of tasks including monitoring team email in-box, assisting with in-going and out-going post, reception duties, arranging appointments, logging customer orders and more.
  • Through personal example promote the values and behaviours (including equalities) that underpin the organisational strategy of the County Council.
