The Revenues team is responsible for the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates. Collection of this allows us to provide essential services to our residents.
The Revenues apprenticeship is a great opportunity to learn whilst working as part of the Council’s Revenues, Benefits and Customer Service team. The successful candidate will assist with the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates. This is a way to obtain a genuine qualification and obtain the skills necessary to develop your career.
The apprenticeship will be delivered through on-the-job training, with the support of a mentor who will work closely with you in the office. You will also be supported by the Institute of Rating, Revenues and Valuation (IRRV). The IRRV are widely are leading professional training provider. Their training and qualification is highly regarded in the industry.
To support your learning and development, the IRRV will provide you with:
- An electronic portfolio
- Online training program
- Face to face training days and forums at the London HQ
- Access to webinars
- A place at the IRRV annual conference
- Access to the IRRV magazine
- Tests, which will be marked by the IRRV
- Once qualified you will also be entitled to IRRV membership
The IRRV provide this course of training in groups, so you will have the opportunity to build a network of likeminded people who are all working towards the same qualification. The cohort that you will be part of starts working with the IRRV on 29th May 2019.

As well as the qualification, training and support, you will also work in a job that provides valuable services to our residents. Your duties will include:
- Setting up new accounts and closing old accounts
- Granting exemptions and discounts
- Taking payments
- Answering both written and verbal enquiries
- Assisting in activities relating to the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates
- Learning and applying legislation to real cases
