We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with public relations and marketing experience to drive forward the Council’s vision and objectives through effective and efficient communications.

This is a temporary position covering a period of maternity leave within the team for up to 12 months.

Working with the Marketing Communications Manager and wider team, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of communications covering campaign management, media relations, digital communications, internal communications, events and more.

A key task will be devising, leading and implementing targeted and attention grabbing multi-channel marketing communications campaigns which hit the agreed objectives, budget and schedule, as well as raising the profile of Council-led services.

To deliver high impact communications within a busy environment, you will need excellent writing skills, plenty of creative flair and resourcefulness. A highly organised approach is essential to multi-task and flex accordingly with daily challenges and competing deadlines.

On top of your creative skills, you’ll also possess technical know-how and experience when working with graphic designers, printers, rich media and other external specialist suppliers to produce eye-catching and engaging content.

With one eye always on the horizon, you’ll have the ability to spot and capitalise on positive news stories and, conversely, to identify potential issues and draft media responses. You’ll be accustomed to writing news releases, handling media enquiries from local and national media sources, and liaising with senior staff to deliver swift and accurate responses.

Driving forward the Council’s digital revolution is another main priority. You will use your good working knowledge of digital communications channels to assist with the development of the Council’s overall strategy. As part of this remit, you will support the development and management of the Council’s social media strategy and channels.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join a busy marketing and PR team to ensure that accurate, efficient and cost-effective service information reaches the right people at the right time and make a positive difference to the Borough.

What we offer

In return, we offer a competitive salary, a generous flexi time scheme with the ability to take two flexi days a month, membership of the local government pension scheme, a pleasant open plan working environment at the Civic Offices and the chance to get involved in some exciting projects that are changing the face of Woking. Further benefits are detailed in the job pack.

Politically Restricted Post

Under the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009, this post is politically restricted and you will be disqualified from being a Councillor, Member of Parliament or Member of the European Parliament. The regulations restrict the post holder from undertaking canvassing on behalf of a political party or a person who is or seeks to be a candidate or speaking to the public at large or publishing any written or artistic work that could give the impression that they are advocating support for a political party.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Andy Denner, Marketing Communications Manager, on 01483 743026 or email andy.denner@woking.gov.uk

Interviews will take place on 11 and 12 April 2019.
