The District Councils’ Network (DCN) is a cross-party member led network of 200 district councils. We are a Special Interest Group of the Local Government Association (LGA), and provide a single voice for district councils within the Local Government Association. District councils in England deliver 86 out of 137 essential local government services to over 22 million people – 40% of the population – and cover 68% of the country by area.

We are looking for a dynamic new Director to build on the momentum the DCN has achieved in recent years and to deliver a first class service to our members. You’ll be responsible for leading a small, but highly talented team, and will be provide the day to day organisational leadership of DCN, in close conjunction with the Chairman and Chair of the Chief Executive Group and will be accountable to both the DCN Member Board and DCN Chief Executive Group .

As a member focused cross party organisation, you’ll be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working closely with politicians and be able to demonstrate political sensitivity and acumen. With extensive senior level experience of working in either Local Government, the Civil Service or a public sector membership organisation you’ll be able to lead from the front whilst demonstrating a flexible approach between strategic and detailed operational challenges as the situation demands and be able to work with minimal supervision.

With a background in policy, you’ll also be adept at influencing and shaping policy to deliver concrete outcomes and will be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and will crucially be able to demonstrate the credibility to influence and shape issues that impact in Districts. The DCN also has a number of external partnership arrangements and you will be able to demonstrate experience of managing contract effectively and be able to nurture close working relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

Please note that you will be employed by Tandridge District Council on behalf of the DCN.
