We are seeking a qualified tutor to teach Early Years courses as part of our Family Learning suite of programmes. As a lead tutor you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on improving the lives of parents and their children in Surrey.
Family Learning is an integral part of the Surrey Adult Learning Service which offers a broad range of learning opportunities to meet both local needs and government priorities. Family Learning aims to improve outcomes for parents and children through an exciting and relevant curriculum of inter-generational and adult only courses. Wherever possible we encourage parents to pursue further learning and offer opportunities for progression to accreditation.
The salary is £25, 821 per annum. This is a permanent contract for 52 weeks a year, 18hrs a week and the pro rata salary is £12,910pa. A term time only option would be considered. There are options to join the Surrey pension scheme and many other benefits.
The Family Learning team is based at Camberley Adult Learning Centre, France Hill Drive, Camberley, GU15 3QB; but with regular countrywide travel for teaching. Therefore you will need to have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle. Flexible working is available, by agreement. Courses are always delivered from schools, children’s centres or community centres across Surrey, therefore your weekly workplace will vary.
An enhanced DBS ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks will be required for this role.

About the Role
You will join a dedicated team of three lead tutors (Language and Maths) and be responsible for designing and delivering a structured teaching programme to directly meet learners’ needs for each course you teach. Every course aims to improve parent’s own skills whilst linking to the child’s development and the EYFS. Courses include ‘Understanding Children’s Behaviour’ ,The Value of Play’ and ‘Storytelling workshops incorporating craft and activities’.
As a lead tutor you will need to develop specialist resources for these courses and support improvements for other ‘bank’ tutors in your curriculum area. You will also carry out initial screening of learners, set appropriate learning objectives for each learner and review these as the course progresses.

Experience of teaching adults for an organisation subject to the Ofsted quality framework.
- A level 3 or higher subject qualification in Early Years and a relevant teaching qualification.
- An ability to be able to use IT confidently.
