Temporary Accommodation Officer – Permanent

Full time 36 hours per week

Salary S6 £37,223 – S01 £42,551

Within the Private Rented Sector and Temporary Accommodation Team

Based at the Civic Centre in Esher, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the busy Housing Options Unit for a Temporary Accommodation officer.

The Private Rented Sector and Temporary Accommodation Team are two vital services: securing good quality, affordable private rented accommodation for households threatened with homelessness, and arranging emergency temporary accommodation placements while liaising closely with hotel and accommodation providers.

This is an interesting and varied role that plays a key part in helping the Council meet its duties to homeless households. You will be responsible for co-ordinating temporary accommodation and move-on arrangements, working closely with registered providers, private landlords and partner agencies. The role involves placing households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, nominating tenants for available properties and communicating with customers and stakeholders by telephone, email and face-to-face.

We are looking for someone who is well organised, with strong administrative and interpersonal skills. You will be able to maintain accurate databases and records, collate statistical information, and respond to routine enquiries on behalf of the team. You will be numerate, IT literate, and confident in using a range of software packages.

You will have experience of dealing with members of the public and delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to produce clear and effective correspondence.

As part of a small team, you will need a flexible approach to work and the ability to manage a varied workload. You should be capable of working on your own initiative, prioritising tasks effectively, and adapting to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.

What we're looking for:

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records and databases.
  • Ability to produce clear written correspondence.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their housing experience while making a positive difference to residents in need of housing assistance.
