Seasonal Gardeners/Groundspersons (Post 1238)

Working within our parks, open spaces and highways, this is your opportunity to help make a real difference to the leisure experience of the residents of, and visitors, to the borough of Guildford. You could be looking for a change in career, enjoy gardening as a hobby or maybe looking for something different to do in your retirement.
Helping maintain floral displays, undertaking grass cutting and assisting with the preparation of sports surfaces, you will use your horticultural knowledge and skills to assist our permanent workforce during the busy Spring and Summer months. You will need a degree of physical fitness and an aptitude for working of outdoors, along with an interest in gardening and a desire to learn on the job. Some knowledge and experience of horticulture, manual handling and working on highways would also be useful but not essential in this role.
As well as an awareness of health and safety, you will also have good verbal communication and customer service skills for interacting with colleagues, supervisors and the general public.
Working 41 hours a week Monday to Sunday, this role involves shift work and may include early starts. The contract is temporary for 3 months initially with the possibility to extend further, and the opportunity to lead to a permanent position for the right person. Overtime shifts are also available. A licence valid to drive in the UK in order to drive Council vehicles around sites would be an advantage.
