This role has a starting salary of £54,636 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

This is a fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity to cover maternity leave up to 28th November 2026. (Before submitting your application, please discuss with your Line Manager).

About the Role

As an Assistant Team Manager, you will take a leadership role within the team. You will assist with leading, motivating and managing to ensure the service provided is consistent, effective and delivers positive outcomes for individuals, their carers and families in line with current national legislation, local policies and procedures.

You will deputise for the team manager when required, providing day to day management and oversight of the team, including management of the overall work load of the team and individual team members.

The role is varied and demands a high level of adaptability and resilience, alongside navigating evolving priorities and working within tight timelines. On a daily basis you will be supporting and supervising colleagues, managing a sub team (such as allocation or reviews), running our busy duty desk, provide professional leadership on safeguarding enquiries, monitor performance management, support and encourage professional decision-making in others and apply extensive knowledge of practice, theory and legislation to enhance practice.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Hold a recognised professional qualification in Social Work and be registered with the appropriate regulatory body
  • Have substantial post qualification experience in adult social care or a community setting
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of statutory duties under the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Be confident in safeguarding practice, MCA application complex decision making
  • Have significant experience supervising, supporting mentoring staff with the ability to guide and develop others
  • Be keen to develop leadership skills while maintaining a strong focus on high-quality practice
  • Respond proactively and flexibly to changing needs, effectively prioritising competing demands and managing pressure confidently

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
