Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is looking for dedicated individuals to work as Loaders on our refuse and recycling collections operation.

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council collects almost 120,000 refuse and recycling containers each week.  Over half of all collected waste is recycled. You will work as a Loader on a refuse and recycling collecton vehicle. You will help the driver to ensure that collections are made safely, properly and within set timelines. You can learn more about our services at www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/recycling and www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/businessbins.

Refuse and recycling loaders need to be fit, hard-working, flexible and positive. The role involves working outside in all weathers and working closely with a small team to complete the round each day.

There is a significant focus on health and safety, handling various containers, working on and near the highway, and working around vehicles.  You will be expected to protect yourself, your colleagues and members of the public while working.  Personal protective equipment and uniform are provided. A positive customer service attitude is vital.  This is the only Council service that impacts every single household, every single week.

The role involves working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including bank holiday Mondays.  The service does not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.  Routes typically start collections at 6.30am.  Applicants must be able to be at work in time for the start of collections every day.

This role does not involve driving.  But there is opportunity for progression through Trainee Driver and Driver roles.  A pension scheme is available but membership is not compulsory.

If you have enthusiasm and determination to deliver a first class service then we would like to hear from you. In return you will benefit from 24 days annual leave, subsidised gym membership, entitlement to join the local government pension scheme, and non-contributory life assurance. Initial and annual refresher training are provided to all staff.

For an informal discussion please contact Saul Andrews, Waste Services Supervisor on 01372 732000.  For further details and to apply on-line please go to the Epsom and Ewell pages of Surrey Jobs at www.surreyjobs.info.
