Curatorial Assistant (Post 07.045)

Permanent, full time 37 hours per week

Salary: £22,567 - £26,101 per annum

The Heritage team manages a number of historic attractions, including Guildford House, the Guildhall, Guildford Castle and Guildford Museum.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person to take up the post of Curatorial Assistant. As part of a small, friendly team, you will assist in the care of Guildford Borough Council’s heritage collections and historic interiors, and in the provision of public museum and gallery services.

Your remit will include all aspects of collections stewardship such as cataloguing objects, assessing potential acquisitions, researching local themes and stories, environmental and pest monitoring, and checking object conditions. You will also respond to collections enquiries, and support exhibitions and other public programmes.

With some ‘hands on’ curatorial experience, gained through working or volunteering in a museum, training, or similar, you will also be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of museum collections care processes and standards.

Along with a general understanding of the preventive conservation and handling needs of historic artefacts, you will also have a good understanding of the importance of good customer care in building and engaging audiences.  With good written communication skills and strong verbal communication skills, you will also be able to demonstrate the ability to manage your own workload to meet targets and deadlines.

We can offer you generous leave entitlement, flexible working (flexitime) and an extremely competitive pension scheme. We also offer many other benefits including health and wellbeing initiatives and discounts off a range of well-known high street shops and supermarkets.

This post is permanent and full time, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

A basic DBS check will be required for the successful candidate prior to appointment.

Closing date Friday 4th January 2019 5:00pm

Interviews week commencing 21st January 2019
