We are seeking to recruit a proactive, motivated and confident individual who is looking for a challenging role in a busy and fast paced environment within the Benefits team. Job Profile

Benefit caseworkers accurately assess and process Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support claims in accordance with current legislation. Day to day caseworkers obtain and verify information from customers or other agencies for the correct assessment of claims. Claims are reviewed to ensure accurate entitlement and fraud prevention.

Caseworkers respond to email enquiries and provide benefit advice verbally and in writing, arranging repayment of overpaid benefit, by resolving queries, and raising invoices.

It is important to work effectively as a team with other specialists across the council to which provides opportunities to expand into other areas within the case work team.

The post holder will support the Case Team Leader for the Revenues and Benefits team to ensure work processes, standards and compliance are completed efficiently and effectively and continuously improved. 

The post holder will need to manage cases allocated on workflow and ensure cases are resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible. The post holder will be required to undertake some training and support as identified.

Applicants will need the ability to analyse information, plan, monitor and use their own initiative, and most importantly be customer focused at all times.

This role is classed as Agile. Office working will be needed full time during the training period but once training has progressed successfully, the successful candidate will be able to work from home part of the working week on a rota basis with colleagues. Our usual office/home working split is 50/50 for all caseworkers.

This role attracts a salary between £26,633 and £28,724. Offers are usually made at the lower end of the salary band allowing for progression. 

The role does not provide parking. 

Essential criteria for the role:

  • A proactive approach, with strong administrative skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people of different social, economic, and professional backgrounds.
  • Conscientious attitude and attention to detail.
  • A good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • IT skills are essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to take the initiative. You must be a quick learner.

Desirable criteria for the role:

  • Candidates with administrative experience in Local Government.
  • Knowledge of Civica
  • A working knowledge of the benefits system
