Housing Benefit Assistant

Fixed Term 12 Month Contract to cover Maternity Leave

Full Time 36 hours per week £23,645 – £26,346 per annum

Working in the busy Housing Benefits section as part of a small pre-assessment team your main duties will include checking incoming claims for completeness, dealing with customer queries at the enquiry desk and over the telephone as well as scanning and indexing documents.

Previous benefit experience would be an advantage although training will be given, and you will need to have excellent communication and customer care skills with the ability to be both a team player and to work on your own initiative. You will also need to be computer literate as you will be using two computer systems at the same time.

The hours are worked flexibly between 8am to 5pm daily to be agreed with the Manager.

Spelthorne currently has a hybrid working policy; however, this role is mainly office based due to the requirements of this position.

We can offer excellent conditions of service with a benefits package that includes flexible working hours, pension scheme, free car parking and at least 23 days paid leave per year.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for customer facing posts.  These posts fall within the scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers.  The Council, therefore, has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. If you have any queries or would like to discuss this further, please contact Human Resources.

A Basic DBS check plus BPSS check will also be required for this post.
