Are you looking for the exciting next step in your procurement career?

Would you relish the opportunity to manage procurement for a Council with a commitment to delivering high quality services, continued improvement and providing value for money in achieving its priorities?

Can you bring your knowledge and experience of procurement to a role where you are the Council’s expert and trusted source of advice?

If so, this role is for you.

About the role

Tandridge is an attractive, mainly rural, district in Surrey.  Our priorities are:

  • Protecting and enhancing our environment.
  • Delivering affordable housing for local people.
  • Financial prudence and sustainability.
  • Putting residents at the heart of what we do.
  • A safe, healthy and caring community supporting those most in need.
  • A thriving economy.

Procurement plays a crucial part in ensuring these priorities are delivered and that our budget is put to the best use. The Council spends approximately £20m a year with third parties.  We deliver a broad range of highly valued services, including planning, housing, council house building, leisure, waste and environmental services.

The role is a fantastic opportunity to manage procurement for a Council.  The role will give you experience across a range of categories and types of procurement.  You will work at all levels, from setting the strategic direction to managing operational compliance.

The Council takes a proactive approach to learning and development and will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge to make the most of the role.

Although you will be the Council’s procurement specialist and take responsibility for all aspects of procurement, you will have the support you need to succeed.  We work closely with neighbouring Councils and other partners to ensure that you have access to advice, capacity and continuing professional development. In particular, we work with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Surrey County Council to provide additional resilience and capacity for procurement.  You will be a key part of these collaborative relationships and will work in partnership to achieve the best outcomes.

You will be part of the Resources Directorate Management Team, giving you access to knowledge and intelligence of how the Council operates, emerging priorities and pipeline procurements, along with a supportive and enthusiastic network of colleagues.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with a wealth of public sector procurement experience, who is professionally qualified and either has experience of managing procurement for a local authority, or who can demonstrate that they are ready to take that step.

In particular, you would need to hold an appropriate procurement related qualification and up-to-date CPD (e.g. Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations – CIPS)

You will need to be proactive, organised but flexible and be calm under pressure.  Senior managers in the organisation will trust you to provide pragmatic and confident advice.

A full role profile and essential requirements are provided.

What we Offer

When you join us your expertise, skills and experience will be valued and your career development will be our priority.

We are committed to creating a collaborative and innovative environment which empowers you to thrive. You will be part of a friendly, supportive One Team culture with the chance to make a real difference.

We use Viva Engage to keep you connected and engaged and we hold regular face to face meetings, such as Chief Executive briefings to keep you in the loop.

We are conveniently located close to Oxted Station and have some free on-site parking.

In addition to the stated pay, we offer membership and contributions towards the Local Government Pension Scheme, hybrid working, flexi-time, payment of a relevant professional subscription and access to a discounted health scheme.
