We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Benefits Officer to join our busy Revenues & Benefits Team on a permanent full-time contract.

About the role

You will be responsible for assessing/reassessing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support entitlement to ensure correct documentary evidence and information has been provided in compliance with legislation, best practice and ensuring correct payment is made to the claimant, landlord, Council Tax account or rent account as appropriate.

Where necessary you will calculate, allocate and set recovery action for any overpayment of benefit. Notify the claimant (and landlord if appropriate) of the details and recovery action. Refer overpayments not to be recovered to the Senior Benefits Officer for authorisation.

This position requires an enhanced DBS check.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have current experience of working within a Benefits environment and have up to date knowledge of Benefit legislation.
  • Have a good standard of education, including literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills, in person, in writing and on the telephone.
  • Are highly organised and able to work without much supervision.
  • Are comfortable working in a team and working flexibly to support your colleagues.
