About the Role

 We are looking for a Community Development Officer to join our busy team and work with us to support the Community Development Team to achieve the Council’s strategic aims around promoting healthier and more inclusive communities.

This role will:

  • Help build, maintain and partner with a thriving network of community groups of all types that provides and supports all number of activities in the Borough, with particular focus on those in greatest need, and work with local community, leisure and health-focussed organisations to increase opportunities, engagement and promote active and healthy lives for all.
  • Coordinate, deliver and facilitate inclusive community events and initiatives that support the council’s key objectives and priorities.
  • Work with the Community Development Manager to review applications to the council’s grant schemes and apply for or assist with applications for funding to support the delivery of projects.

About You

  • Passionate about supporting communities and residents, promoting healthier lifestyles, supporting those in greatest need and championing greater equity and inclusion
  • Experience of working or volunteering in the voluntary/community sector, in sports/leisure settings, local government or a health/social care setting
  • Understanding of and/or experience of working with diverse communities and individuals
  • Experience of planning and running events
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, focussed on customer service, and an ability to engage with a wide range of audiences and people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Able to work independently, manage deadlines, monitor budgets and report on progress
