We’re re-energising our Democratic Services Team here at Waverley and have an exciting new post of Deputy Democratic Services and Scrutiny Manager. You will have demonstrable experience in a local authority democratic services role, including experience of clerking/supporting Full Council, Executive, Overview & Scrutiny and statutory Committee meetings together with demonstrable experience in a line management role.

You will: 
- Lead on the Executive decision-making process, together with the Scrutiny function of the Council
- Deputise for the Democratic Services Manager
- Line manage two staff
- Lead on Member training and development

We’re looking for:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a deep understanding of working within a political environment, but most importantly, you will be a pro-active, dynamic, inspiring officer who can show us how we can do things better.
- Someone self-motivated and able to demonstrate how you have delivered improvements in governance elsewhere, your workload will be varied, and you will need to be flexible about which meetings you cover, which will mostly be in the evenings.
- Be capable of working well on your own and as a supportive member of a team.
- Be adaptable to the task in hand and willing to learn.
- Demonstrate confidence to make process improvement suggestions where necessary.

Agile Working: 
This is a hybrid role with attendance expected at evening meetings in Godalming, Surrey.

Hours per week and working pattern:
37 hours: Full or Part time applications accepted.
