Communications Officer or Senior Communications Officer - Internal Secondment
Communications Officer or Senior Communications Officer six-month secondment
Internal applicants only
Are you looking to expand your career horizons? Want to learn new skills to help you in your current role? Interested to work at the centre of the Council where you can collaborate with teams across the organisation?
The Runnymede Borough Council Communications Team is recruiting internally for a six-month secondment at Communications Officer (grade 9) or Senior Communications Officer (grade 10).
The successful candidate will work across a range of activities including social media, intranet management, newsletters, campaign development and delivery, press releases, video making and more.
You’ll need to be able to work quickly and accurately, change priorities depending what’s going on every day and be a real team player, talking to other team members throughout every day.
The role would suit someone who:
- has a genuine interest in learning about or moving into the communications sector,
- wants to see the Council in a new way by being at the centre of everything,
- likes a fast-paced environment and prefers short, punchy activity to longer term programmes of work, and
- is good with technology and online platforms.
About you:
- You don’t need to have worked in communications before, but you might have a qualification in the subject.
- Maybe you’re a secret Instagram influencer who can bring great ideas or a first-rate video producer with a string of film clips to your name.
- You will absolutely need to be confident, creative and curious.
This job is:
About understanding what’s going on across the organisation so you can protect and enhance the Council’s reputation by publishing information on all the good things we do.
This job is not:
For someone who just loves writing (you will need to be great at English though). Our work is really varied and touches all areas of the Council.
Salary information:
The example grade for the secondment is 9 or 10. If you are currently paid more than this, you will retain your existing salary. If you are paid less, your salary, for the period of the secondment, will increase.
To apply:
Read the job description and person specification and if you think you can meet most of what it says, send your CV, via Jobs Go Public. With the personal statement you should set out:
- why you want to work in communications specifically,
- what you could bring to the team and what you hope to gain from the secondment,
- information or examples about some of the points highlighted in the person specification.
Closing date: 11.59pm 17 July.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed during the week of 22 July and will be asked to provide a portfolio to evidence some elements listed in the person specification.
Likely start date: Late August subject to negotiation with your line manager.
