Are you ready to step up to a more senior role in planning policy, or perhaps you are an experienced planner wanting a change?  You will be supporting our customers and helping them to understand the role good planning makes in shaping an area.

This is an exciting time for the team as we proceed with the Examination of the draft Elmbridge Local Plan 2037 and move forwards with other key Council projects including the implementation of a borough-wide Design Code Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and place-making projects including Esher Town Centre Vision.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and organised planning professional with significant experience of preparing development plan policies and in their implementation. You will lead the Local Plans team in the remaining stages of the local plan examination and be responsible for the preparation of SPDs, to support the Plans’ implementation.

You will have experience of managing a Local Plans team and dealing with major and more complex planning policy issues. You must be able to show that you have a sound knowledge and clear understanding of current law, national policy and guidance related to development planning, and an ability to deal with complex planning issues and produce reasoned recommendations supported by evidence.

Working with the support of the wider management team, you will be enthusiastic, motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of customers of the service, as well as being politically astute.  You will also have direct line management responsibilities and be involved in identifying and implementing service improvements.

You will see the other essential criteria in the person specification, but it’s your approach to work that will be your main asset.

Whether you are a planning manager looking for a new challenge or a principal / senior officer looking for the next step up, you will understand that you have an important role to play in helping us to shape Elmbridge. You will be supporting our residents and helping them to understand the role good planning makes in shaping an area.
