A exciting opportunity has arisen to take on a role that will drive efficient and effective service design and compliance for an established in-house service in a rapidly changing period for the industry. To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter explaining your suitability for the role as part of your application. 

This role is responsible for:

  • the development of waste strategy and policy, as well as monitoring and evaluating its effectiveness
  • Initiating, designing and delivering business development and improvement plans focusing on the continued commercialisation of services, including exploring further opportunities to scale existing contracts and seek new business
  • building resilience, improving performance and maintaining compliance by undertaking the most appropriate projects and initiatives
  • ensuring policy compliance with waste legislation including upcoming future changes through appropriate service planning and design, engaging with DEFRA and other central government agencies to ensure that Guildford are represented in legislation planning
  • programme managing project delivery cross a range of departments (services) within Environmental Services
  • encouraging continued growth and income generation from the garden waste service
  • line managing a multi-section-based team
  • playing a key role in ensuring programmes and projects (change initiatives) meet objectives on time and on budget to improve the Council’s performance
  • working across all levels of the organisation to increase benefit realisation, value creation and more effective, efficient and customer focussed services. 

You'll also be expected to work with on joint initiatives with the Surrey Environment Partnership.

Job Profile

This role is office based, primarily working out of the Guildford's Woking Road Depot (relocating to a depot in Slyfield Industrial Estate in 2025).

The interviews for this role will be held on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th June 2024.
