  • Bank Traffic Interviews Surveys and Admin
  • Bank Speed Radar, Roadside & Bus Surveys

About the service

Your work directly impacts on the Environment, Transport and Infrastructure directorate whose purpose is to enable safe, reliable journeys and sustainable, prosperous places now and in the future.

About the team

You will be part of the Transport Studies Survey Team, whose core aim is to accurately and diligently collect pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle movement data which provides insight and allows for evidence led improvements through the team's transport modelling.

About the role

Your role will involve completing traffic surveys as instructed by the Survey Supervisor. This is often working in teams to conduct manual classified vehicle turning counts, pedestrian counts, queue length surveys and on occasion journey time, interview and origin-destination surveys from the roadside.

The surveys are paid at two different pay points depending on the type of survey being undertaken. If successful in your application, you will be appointed to both.

The results our team produce has provided evidence for the Walton Bridge Scheme, which saw the new bridge open in 2013 with monitoring ongoing, and the new Runnymede roundabout, which also continues to require monitoring for analysis of its performance, to name just two examples.

Successful candidates will need to clearly demonstrate the following skills and values:

  • Accuracy in recording information
  • Attention to detail
  • Use of initiative
  • Honest and reliable
  • Excellent written and oral communication

The hours of work vary according to the type of work and the requirements of each individual survey. Most surveys involve early starts and/or late finishes, typically from 7am to 7pm on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with occasional weekends. Availability to meet the required hours is a necessity.

Surveys are required across the entire county so a driving licence and access to a vehicle is necessary. Expenses incurred through mileage and parking for surveys can be reclaimed using Surrey County Council's mileage expense form and claim rate.

This is a rolling advert and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The advert will close when all vacancies have been filled.

Interviews will take place Monday - Friday, between 10am and 4pm.
