The starting salary for this full-time, permanent position is £31,262 per annum for working 36 hours per week.

We are looking for a creative person who shares our passion to make a positive difference to the lives of young people to join our Assessment Team in Walton on Thames.

We believe that the welfare of children and their families is paramount. We are enthusiastic and supportive; committed to the provision of a quality service for children and their carers. We are now looking for people with similar qualities to join us and continue the good work already being done.

As a member of the team you will be working alongside partners, agencies and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community. This is a challenging but genuinely rewarding role where you will receive training to ensure your confidence, competence and professional development. You will also receive a full induction and monthly supervision.

As a Family Support Worker you will be supporting Social Workers in the team, working intensively and in a planned way with the young person, family or carers and other agencies and services. Supporting children and families to achieve their potential will be central to all you do. You will undertake direct work with children, parenting work and potentially group work too. Being able to work in partnership and use your skills to engage with children in a meaningful way will be key in this role.

We're looking for someone who has had experience of working with children and young people and is able to show us how this work has resulted in positives outcomes. You'll be comfortable engaging with families/carers and children, as well as supporting social workers in managing risk and effecting positive change. Effective interpersonal and communication skills will be vital!

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement will need to clearly evidence the following:

  • Vocational Qualifications Level 3/4, or equivalent in relevant fields, with experience of working with children and their families
  • Understanding of relevant legislation affecting working with Children, including The Children Act (1989) and the Children and Families Act (2014)
  • A commitment to working with children to improve the quality of their lives
  • Ability to plan, manage and prioritise a caseload
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team and a willingness to provide guidance to less experienced or more junior members of staff
