About The Role And Team

The Council’s legal team is made up of 2 full time and 5 part time solicitors and support staff working across the full range of district council functions. The team comprises a mixed range of experience and most of the team have worked in both the public sector and private sector and some have worked in different industries before retraining as solicitors, which brings a different interest and perspective to the way in which we work.

This is a part-time position.

While each of us have our own specialisms, we work as a team with members happy to take on new matters, with appropriate supervision where appropriate.

The range of work is varied and includes transactionaladvisory (on both contentious and non contentious matters) and projectpolicy work, including advising on reports to Cabinet and other Committees.

All Council solicitors have access to a wide range of legal tools and databases, which include PLC, Westlaw, Woodfall, Cross on Local Government Law and the Encyclopaedia of Local Government Law.

While we are able to offer hybrid working, our offices are ideally located opposite Dorking Halls, Dorking Leisure Centre and with direct views of Box Hill.

These range from acquisitiondisposal and option agreement transactions, to more routine landlord and tenant type matters such as drafting leases and licences (and advising on issues relating to the Council’s property portfolio (or the portfolio of properties held by the Council’s wholly owned company or where the Council is the sole corporate trustee of Charity land).

There may also be opportunities for the right candidate to assist in a number of other high profile projects relating to other disciplines.

About You

You will be an articulate and competent solicitor with a broad range of experience in transactional, advisory and project based property related work.
