Procurement Assistant
Procurement Assistant
Full Time - Temporary 20 Month Contract
Salary £21,076 to £22,003 per annum, dependent on experience
SBC is looking for a Procurement Assistant to join the Corporate Procurement team (currently of two people) to support the wide variety of procurement (purchasing) and commercial activities which the Council undertakes.
The Procurement Assistant will be an organised, enthusiastic, strong communicator with the ability to work well with others and develop relationships and networks across the Council, and in accordance with the Council’s values.
The role requires good desk-top research, problem-solving and administrative skills. Although supervision and support will be provided, the Assistant will be able to generally work on their own initiative, planning their work and managing their time effectively. Accuracy, care and attention to detail are critical to this role.
The role is typically varied, as the Council procures a wide range of goods and services and has a programme of works requiring the appointment of contractors. This is a challenging and exciting role and provides a platform to enter more senior roles by gaining a sound understanding of Procurement fundamentals.
Working within the Corporate Procurement team, you will develop good commercial awareness and an understanding of the concept of value for money, and how to achieve this for the Council.
An interest in procurement within a political, public-sector environment is important, although no experience of working in such an environment will be necessary for the role.
You will be a competent user of IT, including all MS Office packages. One of the main tasks of this role would be to support the Procurement team with the implementation of a new e-tendering and contract management system.
This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council’s policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with any service requirements.
