We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Private Sector Resettlement officer (Homes For Ukraine), as we continue our positive work preventing homelessness.

The role will specifically provide support and help for Ukrainian households, currently sponsored under the Home For Ukraine scheme, in their efforts to find alternative accommodation.

You will be working alongside the Council's Ukrainian Support team made up of staff across the Council. You will be working with individuals and families fleeing Ukraine (guests) and their UK sponsors.

You are required to work a 37 hours per week, for up to 2 years within the Specialist - Housing team.

 

Job Profile

Reporting directly to the Homelessness, Advice & Allocations Lead, the successful candidate will need experience of supporting customers to sustain their current accommodation or secure alternative in the private sector. 

The role will specifically provide support and help for Ukrainian households currently sponsored under the Home For Ukraine scheme to find alternative accommodation in the private sector.

Main duties:

  • Encourage a problem-solving approach towards housing needs of Ukraine household
  • ability to effectively provide services to non-English speakers using language support
  • to work with guests, sponsors, and partner agencies to successfully maintain their stay in the accommodationto provide general housing advice relating to the private rented sector, local housing allowance, the councils deposit scheme
  • to assist customers to maximise their household income
  • to asisst customers to liaise with potential landlords / letting agents
  • attend property viewings
  • to carry out affordability assessments prior to the customer moving into accomodation
  • the ability to carry out assessments of need and risk and identify appropriate responses
  • good IT skills, able to keep records updated
  • experience of providing front line services to vulnerable families or single people
  • a casework approach to assess and meet the needs of existing refugees and new arrivals
  • to provide a high quality and responsive resettlement service to guests, identify and report safeguarding issues that make the placement unsuitable
  • attend meetings with other council departments in relation to Homes for Ukraine scheme

You will be required to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the following:

  • supporting customers to sustain current or secure alternative accommodation
  • providing excellent customer service
  • working in partnership with other agencies and providers
  • effectively managing a complex and at times high caseload
  • up to date knowledge of Universal Credit and general understanding of the welfare benefits systems and legislation.
  • ability to work as part of a team
  • good organisational skills with the ability to take the initiative
  • excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people at all levels
  • flexible approach with a can do attitude

The role requires you to have the ability to travel to locations which are not accessible by public transport.

An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful applicant prior to appointment.
