The starting salary for this role is £36,282 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

An opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Advisor to deliver excellent services across the Children, Families and Lifelong Learning directorate, through the provision of advice, guidance and support on all health and safety matters.
Based in the Strategic Risk Management team, which supports the work of children’s services, education including schools and adult learning. The team work collaboratively with other health and safety advisors across the Council as part of a Health and Safety Centre of Excellence, to promote safe working practices and high standards.
This role is open to agile working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. You may wish to work from home or any of our council offices most of the time, whilst also being able to visit our customers across the county, therefore the ability to drive and have access to a vehicle is important. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we’d welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what agile working may look like for them.
As a Health and Safety Advisor you will carry out health and safety audits, monitoring visits, accident investigations and the monitoring of accident reports, as well as providing advice to managers on a day-to-day basis on a range of health and safety issues. You will also be involved in project work such as developing and delivering health and safety training, health and safety campaigns, implementation of the Council’s health and safety management system and updating directorate policies and documentation.
Displaying great interpersonal skills and integrity, you will be able to build positive working relationships, whilst working collaboratively with internal and external customers. You will need to be patient and resilient. Above all you will be passionate about delivering excellent service.
Reporting directly to the Senior Health and Safety Advisor, you’ll join a small team supporting managers and staff across the directorate in understanding their part in workplace health and safety. You’ll be someone who understands the value of teamwork, who can work as part of a team or on their own and is innovative and adaptable to change.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent, in Occupational Health and Safety
- Membership of an appropriate professional body, with a willingness to work towards the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Graduate membership
- Good knowledge and understanding of hazards, risks and control measures that can be applied to a broad range of service areas
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety auditing and/or inspections
- Able to develop and deliver training
- Able to understand, meet and exceed customer and stakeholder expectations, displaying professional integrity, respect, confidentiality and understand political sensitivities.
