The starting salary for this role is £16,348 per annum in the first year, increasing to £19,233 in the second year. You will work 36 hours per week and this role will commence in January 2023 and is a 15-month Apprenticeship opportunity.

Your primary base will be one of Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development Outdoor Education Centres:

  • High Ashurst, Mickleham, Dorking, Surrey, RH5 6DQ.
  • Henley Fort, The Mount, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 4RH.
  • Thames Young Mariners, Riverside Drive, Ham, Richmond, TW10 7RX.

There is a requirement to travel to the other centres.

Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) are offering an exciting apprenticeship giving you the opportunity to ‘learn while you earn’ in outdoor learning.

The ‘Outdoor Learning Instructor Apprenticeship Level 3’ will provide you with all the necessary skills to confidently deliver outdoor learning programmes. Working with a ride range of age groups, providing outdoor learning sessions in activities such as challenge course, high ropes, kayaking, raft building, archery, orienteering and reflecting with the groups on their experiences. This is a truly rewarding career.

Providing 15 months paid work and with no maximum age restriction (minimum age 18 yrs), this opportunity offers anyone, at any stage of their career, to join our team. SOLD will train and fully support you to meet the apprenticeship standards and reach your full potential. 

Aside from the comprehensive induction training, you will be offered considerable training opportunities that will be a combination of training from our highly qualified staff, external training and national governing body training and qualifications. We will fully equip you with the skills to become a qualified and experienced outdoor learning instructor / facilitator, to equip you for an exciting career in the outdoors.  

To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate through your application and interview the following:

  • An interest and personal experience in outdoor activities
  • Be self-driven to develop, learn and committed to complete the apprenticeship
  • Have good presentation skills
  • Be positive and solution focussed
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Maths and English GCSE Grade 4 / C or equivalent and above
