At Epsom & Ewell, we deliver high quality services to our residents and have ambitious plans to develop our services to make the borough a fabulous place to live, work and visit.

We are seeking an experienced solicitor to provide advice across a range of council functions. This is an exciting and varied role, in a small and friendly team, and you will be involved in complex and challenging work.

In this wide-ranging role you will work on matters such as property and regeneration, helping with acquisitions and disposals, leases, landlord and tenant transactions, contracts and procurement, and project work.  You will also support council services across a range of functions from democratic services to planning and enforcement.

A practising barrister, solicitor or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, with a detailed working knowledge of the law, you will have the ability to develop strong working relationships with staff across the council, councillors and external stakeholders.  We are looking for someone who is a good negotiator, able to deal with a varied and complex caseload, is motivated and proactive and able to provide legal advice that is clear and understandable. Whilst a local government background and experience would be preferred it is not essential.

The role offers a mixture of office and remote working and most importantly a culture of support, collaboration and a ‘can do’ approach.  You may be expected to attend some evening meetings.

In return you will benefit from 24 days annual leave (rising to 29 after 5 years’ service), subsidised gym membership and car parking, payment of professional fees, entitlement to join the local government pension scheme, and non-contributory life assurance.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a professional and committed team and we look forward to receiving your application. For further details please go to www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/careers or contact Andrew Bircher, Head of Policy & Corporate Resources on 01372 732224.
