Senior Climate Change Officer - Carbon Management

The starting salary for this role is £41,127 per annum for working 36 hours per week. This is a 24-month fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Surrey County Council’s Greener Futures Team that is leading on implementing the Council’s NetZero Carbon Strategy to decarbonise the organisation and the County.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic candidate, interested in working on embodied carbon management across construction projects being implemented by the Council and partners.

You will be part of the Greener Futures Carbon, Economics and Data Team and will help with shaping the Council’s strategy for managing embodied carbon across its projects. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Working with the Technical Services supplier responsible for carbon management for the River Thames Scheme to implement the project’s carbon management plan.
  • Leading on development of the Council's capacity to manage embodied carbon across its construction projects including setting organisational targets for projects and monitoring.
  • Providing input on supply chain engagement to reduce the Council's construction related emissions.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • Relevant Degree/Masters in Sustainability, Built environment or other relevant subject area
  • At least 3 years of work experience in built environment climate change, sustainability related work
  • Experience and knowledge of setting and implementing carbon targets for construction projects
  • Experience of advising construction design teams on carbon saving opportunities throughout a project's lifecycle
  • Knowledge of embodied carbon calculations and related standards/methodologies
  • Knowledge on climate change and sustainability in relation to the Built Environment
  • Project management experience, including budgeting, reporting, effective management of contractors and financial management and control
  • Contract implementation and management experience
  • Excellent relationship management and leadership skills
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Good IT skills including use of MS office (Word, Excel, database management systems, PowerPoint).

We operate a policy of agile working, which means you will have the option to spend part of your week working from home, though this may flex based on business need. Currently our team is working 1 to 2 days per week at our offices in Quadrant Court, Woking.
