Coroner's Support Officer
The starting salary for this position is £26,080 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
Could you help support the Senior Coroner deliver their judicial duties in a role where no two days are the same? We are seeking to recruit Coroner’s Support Officers into this fast paced and diverse role.
As a Coroner’s Support Officer you will play a key role in delivering the effective running of the Coroner’s Court as well as supporting Coroner’s Officers in obtaining information critical to the cases they are managing.
Your excellent customer service and communication skills will tie in with your ability to relate to people from backgrounds reflecting the diversity of the people who live and work in Surrey.
We are looking for people who can make a difference to the lives of people who have lost family members, loved ones or friends. This role requires the ability to deliver legal duties compassionately, whilst being personally emotionally resilient when dealing with what may be difficult or traumatic situations.

We are looking for people with:
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow defined processes in a timely manner whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy
- Experience of providing high levels of customer care and professionalism to members of the public
- The ability to prioritise work effectively and work independently to meet deadlines
- Excellent IT skills
This role requires close working with hospital mortuaries and funeral directors, often attending mortuaries on behalf of the Coroner, ensuring the accurate identification of the deceased and that they are treated with dignity and respect. This may require the person working from locations other than the Coroner’s Court in Woking, including the SCC Body Storage Facility.
Experience gained in the role, from working in an active Court, gathering critical information and dealing with the deceased, will be invaluable for progressing in a career in the Coroner’s Service.
