Are you an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual seeking a new challenge? If so, this is an excellent opportunity to work for a professional, ambitious and friendly finance team with a wide variety of work which will offer many opportunities to channel your talents and develop your career.
Following an internal promotion, we are seeking an Accountant to provide costing, budgeting, and accounting services for a range of Council activities. As well as budget setting and budgetary control, a good knowledge of cost allocation, recharging mechanisms and reconciling control accounts are essential. The provision of financial advice to stakeholders is a key element of the role so good verbal communication skills and a friendly and positive attitude are also required.
Highly numerate, you will need to work accurately and methodically and ensure that all aspects of your work meet statutory requirements and professional codes of conduct, particularly those in respect of producing the year end accounts. Your strong technical skills will give you the self-confidence to enable you to manage the competing demands of the role and you should be able to organise and prioritise workloads and have a flexible approach to your duties to enable you to meet the various deadlines required. Whilst not essential, previous experience of local authority accounting would be an advantage.
Candidates should be professionally qualified to Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) standard or equivalent, however if you are actively studying for an accountancy qualification with a commitment to gain full qualification, then you will be considered.
You will be responsible for managing your own workload and will need to possess good numeracy skills, be highly organised and be competent in dealing with difficult situations, with the confidence to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in a finance environment is essential.
We are creating an environment where people can balance successful careers with their commitments and interests outside of work. To this end the Council operates a hybrid home/office working policy and candidates will only be asked to work 3 days a week in the office. We also offer other benefits including flexi-time, access to the local government pension scheme and a generous leave entitlement which all help towards ensuring you enjoy a sustainable work life balance.
