We are looking for an enthusiastic Accountant to join our busy finance department. In this role, you will have exposure to a wide variety of financial situations and an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a number of key areas of Local Authority financial services. The post will be highly attractive to qualified accountants or anyone in the latter stages of a professional accountancy qualification wishing to broaden their knowledge base.
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will contribute to budget setting, monitoring, and closing, and assist in supporting the Council’s financial systems. You will also assist the Council in accounting for VAT and business rates income.
The minimum requirement is to be either a CIPFA/CCAB/CIMA finalist or have attained the AAT qualification, ideally with proven accounting experience within local government. The Council would be open to supporting your final studies and your development needs to achieve full qualification.
You need to be confident in your ability to work with minimum supervision and on your own initiative. You will have experience of the budget cycle, together with the ability to organise, plan and deliver work to tight deadlines. Crucially you will need to be a team player and able to work with competing demands in a calm manner.
