A new role has been created within the Asset Management team to provide facilities and mechanical and electrical (M&E) technical support in connection with its diverse non-housing property portfolio.

The Council holds a wide range of operational buildings including sports and leisure facilities and a number of heritage properties, along with an extensive tenanted commercial estate.

The purpose of the role is to support the maintenance and building-related health and safety management of those properties alongside a small team of building surveyors.

Working for the Building Surveyor Manager, typical duties of the role will include the following:

  • Manage various aspects of statutory compliance health and safety contracts (asbestos, fire and Legionella).
  • Inspection of properties with no local on-site presence.
  • Liaise with lease managers to manage shared responsibilities on leased properties.
  • Fulfil Building Responsible Person duties for all properties within the remit of Asset Management.
  • Provide technical input for management of more complex properties such as Spectrum leisure centre and G Live entertainment centre.
  • Provide general technical input to planned and reactive maintenance projects.
  • Log results of inspections and keep relevant databases up to date.
  • Manage the condition survey programme.
  • Deliver various planned cyclical works programmes.

Skills and experience needed:

The ideal candidate may have facilities management experience of complex buildings such as hospitals or leisure centres or be an M&E engineer with experience of contract management.

Beneficial skills and experience will include:

  • Recognised facilities management or M&E engineering qualifications or experience.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation. Particularly that relating to the risk management of asbestos, fire and Legionella but that of other building-related systems would also be beneficial.
  • Strong customer liaison skills
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly developed organisational skills.
  • Conscientious attitude and attention to detail.
  • Experience of specifying small scale works and managing contractors.
  • Good IT skills with typical office software, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • A full driving licence and use of own transport is required.
