The starting salary for this role is £31,273 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
We are currently looking for a Senior Finance Officer to join the Children, Families and Lifelong Learning Finance service, with day to day tasking by the Surrey Education Services central support team.
In this role, you will work as the inhouse Senior Finance Officer for the Surrey Education Services central support team (formerly known as the Services for Schools team). This is a newly created position, forming an important part of this newly expanded team, whose role it is to support the sale and marketing of the County Council’s traded services and training to schools, academies and early years settings.
This is activity that provides important income generation for the County Council while also enabling school and academy customers access to good quality, value for money services and training. The creation of this role forms part of a wider expansion of the team and is an important step in their journey of transformation to streamline and move onto a more professional and commercial footing in the approach to trading services and training with education customers across Surrey County Council. This role is key to that transformation in enabling robust financial processes to support the business function, but also in enhancing the offer to service and training providers by supporting the Services for Schools Manager with financial modelling in support of proposition development, high level reporting and financial assurance. You will be expected to become the recognised subject matter expert with regards to the financial processes for schools traded services and training, and to become a central single point of contact for internal and external customers in relation to billing and financial queries.
As Senior Finance Officer, you will oversee the financial aspects of the Services for Schools Portal, advising on best financial practice and process improvements with a view to continuously improving the financial aspects of the team's support service for providers and customers. You will hold responsibility for application of the % top slice on income through the portal, in line with the agreed team funding model, ensuring accuracy and compliance with team reporting and startup funding payback requirements.
Other responsibilities include managing the card payment system and quality checking information on the portal. You will ensure that pricing increments are managed, that journals/refunds are undertaken within agreed timescales, and that invoicing is within agreed timescales and sent to the appropriate recipients.
You will also support the team manager with financial modelling and income reporting. Working closely with the Corporate Finance/Services for Schools Portal Officer within the School Relationships Service/Education Teams/Schools, you will help with the development of the Services for Schools Portal, supporting the Services for Schools Portal Officer with responsibility for the administration of the portal.
