Housing Benefit Assessment Officer

(Permanent Contract – Full time 36 hours)

Salary £21,613 to £29,405 per annum

This post is part of a team of Benefit Officers whose job it is to accurately assess claims for benefit from residents in the Borough. This post deals with claimants both at the enquiry desk and over the telephone.  All work is processed via computers both in the assessment of claims and all documents are viewed and worked on electronically.  You must therefore be happy to work on a PC for the majority of the working day.

The benefit system is extremely interesting, but the regulations are extensive and detailed, and you will need to work to accuracy targets. It would be helpful to have prior experience in benefits and you do need to be a quick learner as well as being methodical, accurate and organised.  You will need to have attained good GCSE results or equivalent.

The working hours are flexible from 8am to 5pm and to be agreed with the Manager.

This job involves substantial opportunity for access to the DWP and HMRC customer information and therefore you will be asked to declare any unspent convictions and apply for a Basic disclosure certificate via Disclosure Scotland.

In return we can offer excellent conditions of service with a benefits package that includes flexible working hours, pension scheme, free parking and at least 23 days paid leave per year.

Please be aware that if you do not have previous Housing Benefit assessment officer experience any salary offer made will be based on the start of the salary scale advertised
