The Woking Family Services teams provide innovative support to families and creates multi-agency Teams Around the Family (TAF) for holistic and targeted intervention working in partnership with local agencies.
Woking Family Services are recruiting for a Practice Lead. This role will report to the Family Services Manager and work closely with Team Leaders for the Woking Family Support Programme and Woking Family Centre teams. The Practice Lead will support these teams in their work with families referred through Surrey’s single point of access with complex needs. Under the new Surrey Family Resilience Framework, families will be identified as needing Early Help (Level 3) in areas including the following: safeguarding, education, finance, employment, crime and anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse, health, mental health and substance misuse.
The Practice Lead will hold a caseload of Level 3 families with the most complex needs. They will work closely with the North West Surrey Children’s Services teams in order to support smooth handovers in stepdown cases from Level 4 to Level 3 and act as a conduit between these teams. The Practice Lead will support the wider teams with their practice and peer support as agreed with the Family Services Manager and mentor and support student social workers undertaking their placements within Family Services teams.
Applicants will have experience of working in a relevant field such as child social care, community policing, probation, health, education, housing, youth work or work with parents, and will have current registration with Social Work England as a qualified social worker. Strong empathy and communication skills are imperative and as Practice Lead you are required to quickly build trust and rapport, helping families to move productively forward. Applicants will be passionate, assertive, organised and committed to multi-agency working, with strong skills in assessment and intervention.
Woking Borough Council takes a robust approach to thoroughly checking anyone who has applied to work with vulnerable groups. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this post. An assessment may be required.
