Surrey County Council is seeking to recruit a motivated Public Health Lead in Health Improvement with strong public health skills and a real commitment to improving population health. The post will be focused on health improvement within the Public Health team, supporting a range of interventions and programmes across children and adults.
The successful candidate will lead on one or more areas within the Health Improvement team as well as provide generic public health input to support partnership work. We are looking for someone to lead on Children and Young People’s Public Mental Health, but we encourage applications from candidates who are able to work flexibly on other areas of health improvement to meet the needs of the department (for example, healthy weight, smoking, health improvement communications, health inequalities).
The Public Health team in Surrey is forward-looking and growing team with a strong focus on developing and delivering improvements to the health and wellbeing of our county's population and reducing health inequalities.
This role will also support the implementation of relevant parts of the Surrey Health and Wellbeing Strategy across organisations and communities, and will input into the Annual Public Health Report and the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about public health and keen to develop their skills. We are supportive of people who wish to pursue the Public Health Practitioners programme.
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- Experience of working within public health, ideally on children and/or mental health
- An ability to work collaboratively to join up systems with a focus on prevention
- Flexibility to utilise public health skills on other areas of health improvement to meet the needs of the department
- A degree or relevant skills and experience and a willingness to work towards the UKPHR
The vacancy is for a full-time post but applicants wishing to work part-time or job-share (paid pro-rata) or looking for a secondment will also be considered.
