The Council has recently commenced a review of its Local Plan and is looking for a new team member to assist with this process. Joining our small and friendly planning policy team will enable you to develop quickly, taking forward projects that will assist us in delivering growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Runnymede and delivers infrastructure and services to support it.

Who we are

The Planning Policy team is an ambitious team within the Planning Policy and Economic Development Business Unit, committed to planning positively to meet the growth needs of this special Borough.  Runnymede’s location at the edge of London, close to Heathrow Airport make it an interesting place to pursue the challenges of plan making and delivery. The Local Plan sets out ambitious growth for the Borough, including a new Garden Village and Enterprise Zone at Longcross. 

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a confident, self-motivated and diplomatic person with a positive work ethic who wants to progress their career within a supportive and friendly team. Applicants will be expected to either be chartered members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or be eligible for chartered membership. Applicants will also need to be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the planning system and a minimum of two years’ experience of working within the field. You will also need to be highly organised and able to work independently as well as in a team. You should be able to work positively with a range of partners, give clear accurate advice and have good verbal, numerical, problem-solving, IT and written skills, and be able to demonstrate your ability and experience of delivering good quality work within agreed timescales. The successful candidate must have a full driving license with access to a vehicle insured for business use.

Our team provides a supportive and positive environment in which to work and develop with a proven track record of mentoring planners to full RTPI membership and senior positions. This is a career grade post allowing either appointment at Senior Planning Policy Officer level, or at Planning Policy Officer level but with flexibility to progress to senior level subject to experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will play an important role in assisting with the Local Plan process, including undertaking consultation with the public and a wide range of stakeholders. It is likely that you will be working on developing the evidence base to underpin the spatial strategy for the next iteration of the Local Plan. This will involve assessing the suitability and capacity of potential development sites for different uses. Experience in this area is therefore desirable.  You will also help to resolve a range of other interesting and complex planning policy and delivery issues as part of your work.
