The Hope Service is a unique Surrey service jointly funded by Education, Social Care and Health. We offer Day Programmes on 2 sites in Surrey, offering short stay school provision. We achieved outstanding Ofsted in May 2018 and work with children with complex needs at risk of placement breakdown or Psychiatric hospital admission for between 6 months and a year.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead the teaching team within a multi agency team, across the 2 sites to make a positive impact on children and young people’s lives within the local community. We offer a service to children/young people between the ages of 11 and 17 years old.
The vision is for every child/young person to fulfil their potential and for no young people/children to leave the service NEET.
The Hope Service and Hope Management Committee are seeking to appoint a teacher who is an ambitious and inspirational leader. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to share good practice and have some experience working with young people with complex needs. You will have experience in successfully leading teams and be a forward thinking professional who can demonstrate enthusiasm, resilience, passion, leadership and an up to date knowledge and understanding of the curriculum in a specialist setting.
- To lead the secondary education provision for young people aged 11-16 in the Hope Service Day Programme, based at Epsom and Guildford.
- To ensure effective programmes of personalised learning are delivered to young people with complex educational, social, mental health and emotional needs.
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of, and disseminate information on, new educational initiatives.
- To ensure that appropriate accreditation, awards and formal qualifications are available to meet the wide range of educational needs of young people in Hope.
- To undertake the performance management, including lesson observations, of all teaching staff and to supervise the activity workers and administration staff on both sites.
- To ensure that teaching staff are deployed in an efficient manner
- To carry out regular learning walks which include both education sessions and activity sessions.
- To complete the SEF for the day programme and present this to the Hope management committee.
- To monitor, analyse and report on the progress, attainment and attendance of the young people in the day programme and present this report to both the Hope Outcomes Group and the Hope Management Committee on a termly basis.
- To lead and develop INSET across Hope for education staff and to contribute to the planning of whole service training days.
- To provide support and consultation to Hope colleagues to ensure all young people have pathways to access appropriate employment, education or training on exit from the Hope day programme.
- To liaise with schools and other education providers to ensure up to date information is gathered for all young people who are accepted into the day programme.
- To undertake the successful recruitment and retention of teachers and to ensure that teachers are appropriately trained and competent to fulfil their role in Hope.
- To ensure that Ofsted Inspections run smoothly and be held accountable for the educational judgements made.
- To develop, implement and evaluate the Hope Service Education Action Plan, reviewing it each term and presenting it to the Hope Management Committee.
- To have an overview of the outdoor education provision, trips and visits and all associated risk assessments.
- To actively contribute to Service development.
- To be the staff link with the Hope Management Committee, ensuring all members are allocated areas of responsibility to monitor, that member visits take place, all visit notes are submitted and filed and that rooms are booked and set up for each meeting.
- To support the Team Managers with the smooth running of the day programme, including the creation and distribution of the weekly timetable on both sites and chairing day programme and team meetings.
- To support the Team Managers with the implementation of health and safety practices, including regular fire drills and audits.
- To liaise with the Hope Service Manager to plan expenditure from the educational component of the budget, in order to ensure provision of resources to support and promote the educational and learning needs of the young people in the day programme.
- To monitor and update all Hope policies and present them to the Hope Management Committee for approval.
- To work alongside the Hope Service Manager, Team Managers, senior Social Worker and Lead Nurse, to ensure that there is equality of opportunity, sound safeguarding and appropriate support for young people referred to Hope.
- To ensure that the Hope Service website remains up to date.
- To promote the Hope values at all times and ensure they remain central to the day programme.
- To work collaboratively with Hope colleagues from Health and Social Care and with other professionals supporting Hope young people.
- To travel between sites and ensure equality of education provision across sites.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Hope Service Manager.
