About the role

At Surrey our Children's Services are on a rapid change journey, with new management, innovative approaches and considerable energy. We are determined that children, young people and their families will be at the centre of all we do and are changing our model of work to one which supports excellent children's services, with Family Resilience - early help and prevention, at the heart of our journey. Family Safeguarding, an innovative and highly effective approach, developed in Hertfordshire will be central to our new model

Do you feel passionate about supporting young people to achieve their very best?

Are you looking for opportunities to gain experience within a dynamic and innovative team?

We are looking for creative individuals to join the Assessment Service to help make a difference to our young people's lives.

You will be working to support social workers in the team, and will work intensively and in a planned way with the adolescents, family or carers and other agencies and services, supporting children and families to achieve their potential. You will undertake direct work with adolescents, parenting work and potentially group work. You will undertake Return Home Interviews for children that have been missing and support young people at risk of homelessness. You will need to be able to work in partnership and use your skills to be able to engage with children in a meaningful way.

As a member of our team, you will be working alongside social workers and other partners, agencies and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community. Surrey Children's Service provides training to ensure competence and professional development. We will ensure that you receive a full induction and monthly supervision.

It will be ideal if you have had experience with working with adolescents and can show us how this work has impacted in positives outcomes. Knowledge and experience with regards to housing and the Southwark Judgement would be highly beneficial.

You will need to be able to engage with families/Carers and children, and support social workers in managing risk and effecting positive change. You should be able to evidence good written and verbal skills.

Surrey Children's Service believes that the welfare of children and their families is paramount. Team members are enthusiastic and supportive, committed to the provision of a quality service for children and their carers and we are looking for people with similar qualities to join us to continue the good work already being done.

No two days in the team is the same. You'll need experience of working with children in a paid or voluntary area, or an interest in the welfare and care of children and young people. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are also vital.

If this sounds like you, we would love to receive your application. Please find further information about the role in the attached job description.
