Joining us as an Apprentice Building Control Surveyor you will be part of a thriving Local Authority Shared Service and will embark on a professional career which will include studying for a four-year BSC (Hons) in Building Control (Apprenticeship Degree) from the University of Wolverhampton. You will learn while you earn with the degree, funded through the Apprenticeship levy, delivered through a combination of distance learning and residential block release. A condition of this role is acceptance for study on the BSC (Hons) in Building Control (Apprentice Degree) offered by the University of Wolverhampton.

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship programme you will hold the relevant qualification to continue your career within Building Control.
The Southern Building Control Partnership is a 20-strong team employed by Tandridge District Council to deliver the Building Control service of its residents and businesses and those of Mole Valley District and Reigate & Banstead Borough councils. Initially you will be based at our Oxted hub but as you progress, you can expect to work across the Partnership’s geographic area using the latest cloud-based technology.
The role of a Building Control Surveyor is to ensure that the building regulations which cover areas such as fire safety, public health, energy efficiency and accessibility are followed during construction of new and alterations to existing buildings. Compliance is ensured by our team of Building Control surveyors who evaluate plans, and technical specifications submitted for approval and by carrying out site inspections. Our work also encompasses dealing with dangerous structures, Safety at Sports Grounds and enforcement in relation to unauthorised works.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold three A Levels at Grade C or higher (or equivalent) or Level 3 Apprenticeship in Construction or Property related discipline*
- Have an interest in the Building and Construction sector
- Be an excellent communicator
- Have good problem-solving skills
- Be willing to undertake a comprehensive study programme leading to a Degree
*Prior relevant experience may be considered.
Initially the role is office based but in order to progress the post holder will need a Full Driving Licence and access to a car.
