Chertsey Museum is seeking an Assistant Curator/Educational Officer to deliver and expand their award-winning education service.

The successful candidate will be required to deliver sessions on a range of subjects that support the National Curriculum using objects from the museum’s collection. Sessions will last from 1 to 3 hours and be held at the museum and at local schools within the Runnymede Borough and surrounding areas.

When not delivering educational sessions, the post holder will ensure that the service runs smoothly including liaising with teachers and community groups, allocating resources including staff and ensuring adequate materials for sessions and activities.

The post holder will also deputise in the absence of the Curator and therefore have experience of supervising and managing staff. Deputising will also require this post holder to work additional days and weekends if necessary, to ensure staff cover, and will ideally live within a 30-minute travelling time to the Museum to attend emergency/alarm callouts as required.

You will need to have previous experience of working with children and an enthusiastic approach to learning. Previous experience in delivering education sessions and handling collection objects would be advantageous. Excellent communication and customer services skills are essential along with confidence in public speaking. We also require the post holder to be flexible and reliable.

As this post involves travelling to schools you will need to hold a full valid driving licence and have use of a vehicle with business insurance for this purpose. You will also be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

If you have any questions about the post, please contact the Curator on 01932 565 764 or via email curator@chertseymuseum.org.uk.
