REMA Ethnic and Language Minority Support - Senior Specialist

As a senior specialist for the Ethnic and Language Minority Support (ELMS) team within Children’s Service REMA (Race Equality and Minority Achievement), you will support the ELMS operational manager in delivering a high quality service to children and young people from ethnic/language minority communities.

You will be working in a specified area of Surrey and will have responsibility for ensuring the day-to-day management of a group of staff.

You will ensure that staff work together to improve educational outcomes and life chances for children and young people in line with the Every Child Matters agenda, and you will support them in meeting personal targets and service development objectives.
In consultation with the ELMS operational manager, you will also ensure that links with schools and other partners are maintained and developed.

You will work with schools and other partners to enable them to raise the attainment of ethnic/language minority pupils, promote inclusive practices, recognise and value diversity and implement race equality. You will lead or contribute to specific initiatives intended to achieve these goals, and collaborate with colleagues in delivering training and modelling effective practice.

Educated to degree level, you will be a qualified teacher with experience of working with children from ethnic/language minority communities and a proven track record of achieving successful outcomes for these children.

You will be a good communicator who can work collaboratively and have the ability to inspire and motivate other professionals. You will be able to work with others and also to work independently. You will be well-informed about national initiatives in the raising of achievement for children and young people from minority communities and will have the ability to promote a culture which supports diversity and equality.
