Are you a highly motivated website editor who can take responsibility for coordinating the content of our website and intranet site? Are you committed to improving customer service and making a real difference to the public? Do you want to combine your web editing skills and commitment to customer service by helping us to develop and maintain our electronic services and deliver our Customer First programme?
Ideally you will be a graduate with experience of managing and developing the content of large-scale internet and/or intranet sites. You will have knowledge of the principles of website usability, information architecture, writing for the web techniques and Plain English; an awareness of website accessibility guidelines; and excellent proof-reading, copywriting and editing skills.
You will be responsible for checking and approving all website content prior to publication on the site. This involves ensuring that all content adheres to our Corporate Website Publishing Standards, as well as checking for usability and accessibility.
You will also support authors in the creation of content; assist them with writing for the web; run training and awareness sessions; and act as first point of call for all queries regarding website/intranet publishing.
Additional responsibilities include responding to queries regarding the website by members of the public; configuring, distributing and analysing website statistic reports; and ensuring that website content is kept up-to-date and reviewed on a regular basis.
Please note that although an awareness of HTML, CSS, ASP and other web-related languages and technologies would be useful, this position primarily needs an excellent eye for detail along with proven experience of copywriting and editing for the web.
Experience of working on websites in the public sector and an understanding of the workings of Local Authorities would be a distinct advantage.
